In the little garden

Branches reaching high

Against a small shed

Bright, alive the kumquat tree grew

Leaves turning and twisting like a dance

Branches veering left and right

Unsure of anything but up

Up and into the light

This is one of my favorite paintings that I have ever done. The colors, light, movement - it all sings. The red-brown shed in the background brings the green leaves to life. The kumquats burst with color and light -however, even with all the light the painting is still balanced with dark branches, shaded leaves and the contrasting shed. The brush strokes have energy and a painterly beauty. It was a sweet, beautiful day that is captured on canvas.
